Kioku (記憶) means "memory". It's the card game you know, with the places you'll go: every card is a place from our trips, from Kyoto to the Amalfi Coast and Uluru. Turn two cards, and if they show the same place, the pair is yours.
Made for the Flight
A long flight, a train with no signal, a quiet evening in the hotel: Kioku needs no internet at all. The 28 places travel with the app, so every game is ready the moment you open it.
- 28 places from our trips on board, and each game picks its own
- A short peek: two wrong cards stay open for 1, 1.5 or 2 seconds, your choice
- Place names on the cards, or hidden until you find the pair
Three Sizes of Trip
Start with a Short Trip and work your way up to the World Tour. The clock starts on your first card, and the fewer moves you need, the better your grade.
- Short Trip: 30 cards, 15 pairs
- Grand Tour: 36 cards, 18 pairs
- World Tour: 42 cards, 21 pairs, the hardest
- Your best moves and time for every size, with a grade for each game
- Results on a postcard, with every place you met on the way
Play With Your Own Photos
Your last holiday, your family, your pets: add as many of your photos as you like and play with them instead of the places. Kioku keeps only a small copy of each, without the location or the camera details, encrypted on your phone. Nothing is uploaded.
1 vs 1 with Your Travel Buddy
Sitting next to a friend? Play together over Bluetooth, no internet needed. One phone hosts and picks the cards, then you take turns on the same board. Find a pair and you go again; whoever has more pairs at the end wins, and you see the match side by side, pair by pair. Playing with your photos? They go to your friend's phone for the match, encrypted, and are forgotten after it, unless you let them keep them.
The Brother of Kiku
Kioku shares its look with Kiku, my rhythm game for Android: the same cherry and gold, boarding passes and postcards. Light or dark, as you like, and one of ten card backs, from Night Star to Boarding Pass, in eleven app colours or your wallpaper's. One for the music, one for the memory, both for the same flight.
We're Looking for Testers
Kioku isn't open to everyone on Google Play yet. It's in closed testing by invitation: I add each tester's Google account by hand. If you're interested, get in touch with the Google account you use on your Android phone and I'll send you the link to install it. Keep it for two weeks, play a few games, and tell me what you think. Thank you!
