Welcome to the Canvas Travel Journal: a place for travel inspiration, destination guides, practical travel tips, itinerary ideas and travel planning advice for your next journey.
I've always thought that planning a trip should be about more than simply making a list of places to see.
Of course, there are the famous sights you don't want to miss. But sometimes what makes a trip memorable is something much smaller: a neighbourhood you happen to wander into, a beautiful train journey, a hotel you didn't expect to love, a restaurant you still think about months later, or simply having enough time to sit somewhere and take it all in.
You'll find practical travel information here too: where to stay, what to eat, how to get around, how many days you might need, which experiences are worth making time for, and how to put the different pieces of a trip together.
A Little About Me
I've been working in the travel industry since 2006, and over the years I've had the chance to experience travel from many different sides.
I started in a traditional travel agency, then moved into tour operations, hospitality and online travel. I've worked across different countries and travel markets, including Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Malta. Each role and each place has given me a different perspective on what goes into planning a good trip.
My experience across travel agencies, tour operations, hospitality and online travel has also shaped the way I approach travel today. I'm interested not only in where you go, but in how the different pieces of a journey fit together.
After all these years working in travel, I've realised that choosing the destination is only the beginning. Where you stay, how you get around, how you use your time and even the small experiences you add can completely change how a trip feels.
Travel Tips That Make Planning Easier
Planning a trip can be exciting, but it can also mean making dozens of small decisions.
How many days do you really need? Is it worth renting a car? Would public transport be easier? Should you visit two destinations or spend the whole week in one? Is that day trip actually worth giving up a day somewhere else?
These are the kinds of decisions that can make travel planning surprisingly complicated.
I'll share practical travel tips and things I've learned over the years to help you make those choices, without telling you that there is only one right way to travel.
