Kiku: Music Rhythm Game

Privacy Policy

Effective 5 October 2026, last updated 19 October 2026

In short: Kiku has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. We don't collect, sell or share your personal data. Your songs, scores and settings stay on your phone.

Who we are

Kiku ("the app", "we") is a rhythm game for Android, with Canvas Travel Club. For any question about this policy or your data, write to [email protected].

What stays on your phone

  • Your songs. When you pick an MP3, Android's file picker gives Kiku access to that one file. Kiku analyses it on your phone to build the notes. The file and the analysis never leave your phone (except in 1 vs 1, see below).
  • Scores, settings, favourites and your player name. Stored only in the app on your phone. If you use Android's backup, Android may include them in your own Google backup, under Google's privacy policy; we can't see it.
  • Backup files. In Options › Your data you can save your scores, 1 vs 1 matches and settings to a file and restore it later, for example on a new phone. You choose where the file goes (your phone, Google Drive, a USB stick…) with Android's own file picker; it's scrambled so it can't be read or changed, and Kiku never sends it anywhere.

What uses the internet

Kiku plays offline. It goes online only for the free music of the artist Minoh Kayano Station:

  • the list of albums, their covers and the songs' lyrics, downloaded from the artist's website (minohkayanostation.com);
  • the songs themselves, downloaded from the artist's storage on Google Cloud (storage.googleapis.com), when you choose to get an album or a song.

These are ordinary downloads: Kiku sends no personal data with them, and it never reports what you play or download. Like any website, these servers see your device's IP address while they send the files, and may keep it briefly in standard server logs for security, to keep the service running and to count how many times each song is downloaded. It isn't used to identify you, and it's never sold or shared.

1 vs 1 over Bluetooth

To play with a friend next to you, Kiku connects the two phones directly over Bluetooth, without the internet. During a match it sends to your friend's phone your player name (or your phone's name, if you haven't set one), your live score, and the song you chose to play, so both phones can play it. The song is kept on your friend's phone only as temporary data for the match. Each phone remembers its last 20 matches (the friend's name, the song and both scores) to show them in 1 vs 1; that stays on the phone. Nothing goes through our servers.

Kiku asks for the Nearby devices permission only when you start a 1 vs 1, to find and connect to your friend's phone. It does not use Bluetooth to find your location.

Permissions

  • Nearby devices (Bluetooth): to find, connect to and be visible to a friend's phone in 1 vs 1.
  • Notifications: to show the player controls while Listen mode plays an album with the screen off.
  • Internet: to download the free albums, their covers and the lyrics.
  • Network state: to know whether the phone is on Wi-Fi or mobile data, so songs only download on mobile data when you allow it (Options › Downloads).
  • Vibration: a light tap on each hit (you can turn it off in Options).

Children

Kiku isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anyone's personal data, of any age.

Other websites

The app links to the Canvas Travel Club and Minoh Kayano Station websites, to an album's page on Spotify and YouTube, and to Google Play. They open only when you tap them, and those sites have their own privacy policies.

Deleting your data

Everything Kiku keeps is on your phone. To delete it, use Options › Your data › Reset all data, clear the app's storage in Android's settings, or uninstall Kiku. Long-press a song in Recent to remove it from the list, or remove an album from its page. Backup files you saved stay where you put them, until you delete them.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its date. Big changes will also be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.
