3-Day Uluru Itinerary: Red Desert & Outback Wonders
3days
Arrive at Ayers Rock Airport and transfer to your accommodation. Check in and take some time to settle in. Depending on your arrival time, have lunch at your accommodation or nearby before heading out for your first look at Uluru. Take a relaxed walk around part of the base before finding a good spot to watch the changing colours of Uluru at sunset. Enjoy dinner at your accommodation or choose an outdoor dining experience.
Breakfast, start the day early and head to Kata Tjuta (The Olgas). The morning light is beautiful across the red-rock landscape, and the cooler temperatures make it a more comfortable time for walking. Enjoy a slower afternoon. You could relax by the pool, explore the resort area or join an Aboriginal-guided cultural experience. Head back towards Uluru for sunset. This gives you another chance to see the rock in different light and enjoy the landscape without rushing.
Early breakfast, check out early and begin your journey towards Kings Canyon. The drive takes several hours, so an early start is essential. Arrive at Kings Canyon and, if time and conditions allow, take the Kings Canyon Rim Walk. The spectacular sandstone cliffs, canyon walls and desert landscapes make this one of the highlights of the Red Centre. If you don't have enough time for the full Rim Walk, choose a shorter walking option. Depending on your transport arrangements and flight time, you may return to Uluru Airport or continue onwards as part of a longer Australian road trip.
